The National Jobs-Skills Data Office is a new outfit under the Skills Intelligence and Planning Division, serving three core functions:
- Data and Algorithms Innovation and R&D: Undertake development of new data models and algorithms to serve whole of government’s jobs-skills needs;
- Jobs-Skills Product Management, Development and Delivery: Manage and enhance JS product design & delivery, which includes UX/UI design and end-to-end product life cycle management;
- Data Management and Operations: Centrally manage data quality, data structure, data infrastructure to support internal and external users

[What you will be working on]
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director for the National Jobs-Skills Data Office with a strong background in managing data and product teams to join our innovative organization. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in product management and data team leadership, driving data-driven decision-making and product development. This role reports to the Director and requires exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Leadership and Stakeholder Management
- Assist the Director in overseeing the data office’s operations, focusing on data team management and product development
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to data and product teams
- Influence and drive alignment between senior leadership and teams at the working level
Product Strategy
- Develop and implement product strategies leveraging data insights to drive business growth
- Define product roadmaps based on data analysis, market trends, and customer needs
Data Team Management
- Provide strategic guidance on data strategy, governance, management, and exploitation
- Oversee data operations and analytical R&D of data and data products
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with policy and other teams to meet data-driven product development and customer satisfaction goals
Project Management
- Oversee development and implementation of data-driven projects and initiatives, ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion
Market Research & Analysis
- Conduct market research and data analysis to identify user gaps in jobs-skills data usage
- Integrate customer feedback into product requirements and features
Team Leadership
- Supervise and guide the team, fostering a positive and productive work environment
- Support staff development and career growth
Performance/ KPI Monitoring
- Monitor performance of data teams and product initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

- Proficiency in data analysis and product management
- Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with stakeholders
Experience:
- Several years in a leadership or management role, with a strong background in product management and data team leadership
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful data-driven product roadmaps
- Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence is preferred
- Experience in developing and launching data products is preferred
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Management, Data Science, or a related field
