We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Sustainability Expert to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in our company's commitment to environmental sustainability. Your primary focus will be on measuring and analysing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3) and developing strategies aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to reduce our carbon footprint. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental science, data analysis skills, and a passion for sustainability.
Responsibilities:
Emissions Measurement and Analysis:
- Collect, calculate, and validate data on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions across the company's operations.
- Utilize relevant software and tools for data tracking and reporting (e.g., carbon accounting software) as well as SBTi resources.
- Analyze emissions data to identify trends, hotspots, and opportunities for reduction.
- Prepare regular emissions reports for internal stakeholders and external reporting requirements.
Decarbonization Strategy Development:
- Research and stay up-to-date on industry best practices and emerging technologies for emissions reduction in accordance with SBTi requirements
- Develop and propose actionable strategies for decarbonizing the company's operations, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, and supply chain engagement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and monitor the effectiveness of decarbonization initiatives.
SBTi Expertise:
- Stay up-to-date on the latest SBTi developments, methodologies, and criteria.
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of SBTi sectors and target-setting approaches.
- Advise clients on the SBTi validation and verification process, ensuring their targets are credible and robust.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Communicate sustainability goals and progress to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in preparing sustainability reports and disclosures for investors, customers, and regulatory bodies.
- Participate in relevant industry events and conferences to represent the company's sustainability efforts.
Decarbonisation Consultation:
- Educate prospective customers on decarbonisation topics.
- Provide consultation for Scope 1 and 2 measurements.
- Provide consultation for materiality assessment for scope 3 categories
Additional Duties:
- Support other sustainability initiatives within the company, such as waste reduction, water conservation, and sustainable sourcing.
- Conduct research on emerging sustainability trends and regulations to inform company strategy.
- Assist in developing and delivering sustainability training programs for employees.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 2-5 years of relevant experience in sustainability, environmental consulting, or a corporate sustainability role.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of greenhouse gas emissions accounting methodologies (GHG Protocol).
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting using Excel or other relevant software.
- Familiarity with carbon accounting software and tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Passion for sustainability and environmental issues.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in a specific industry relevant to the company's operations.
- Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD).
- Certifications in sustainability (e.g., LEED, GRI, ISO 14001).
