Job Description

Purpose:

The IACUC Compliance officer will provide compliance and administrative support to the IACUC in facilitating its role and functions in the oversight of NUS animal care and use programme.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform administrative functions at the IACUC Office e.g. co-ordinate meetings, produce monthly (at a minimum) IACUC meeting minutes, liaise with external agencies, update IACUC databases, compile data for IACUC etc.
  • Facilitate IACUC review of animal use protocols including preliminary review of protocols and correspondence with researchers on IACUC requirements.
  • Assist IACUC in ensuring compliance with the regulations and guidelines on the use of animals for scientific purposes by researchers by actively participating in monitoring such as Post-Approval Monitoring (PAM) and others.
  • Facilitate IACUC functions such as annual program review, inspections of animal care and use facilities, including central and satellite vivaria, and all other premises where live animals are used for scientific purposes.
  • Assist IACUC in drafting and reviewing its policies, guidelines, SOPs and any other documents on animal care and use.
  • Address feedback from stakeholders about IACUC’s operations and work to resolve them.
  • Any other IACUC Office duties received from IACUC Chair and Lead, IACUC Office.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • At least a BSc honours degree in biology, life sciences or similar field of study; or diploma/degree in veterinary technology, science or medicine preferred.
  • Experienced in working with live animals for research purposes.
  • Good knowledge of animal ethics and animal use regulations and guidelines such as AVS Rules, NACLAR Guidelines and AAALAC expectations.
  • Proficient with using software programs.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to work under pressure and adhere to timelines.
  • Keen interest in animal welfare and compliance.
