The Ramadan Group-Singapore is a newly established research group located at LKCMedicine/NTU. Led by Prof Kristijan Ramadan, who has previously headed a well-established research group in genome stability and cancer research at the University of Oxford, UK (The Ramadan Group-Oxford). The Ramadan Group-Singapore is actively seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, motivated, well-organized, and experienced Research Assistant (Bachelor degree) Research Associate (with a master's degree in biomedical sciences or related fields) to help us organize, structure, and maintain our laboratory in the basic molecular, cell biological, and biochemical fields.

The appropriate candidate will have experience establishing and/or maintaining basic research laboratories in terms of consumable and equipment purchasing, maintaining and working in mammalian cell culture, and basic experience in various laboratory techniques. The ideal candidate will have a few years of experience working in molecular, cell biological, and/or biochemical laboratories with outstanding organizational skills.

The post holder will be responsible for the following:
  • Maintain and update laboratory data of reagents
  • Purchasing the reagents and equipment
  • Taking care of the cell culture room and maintenance of lab equipment
  • Support PhD students and post-doc researchers in their experiments
  • Maintenance of cell lines and cloning of different expression constructs
  • Execute follow-up experiments to generate a sufficient amount of results for a scientific publication
  • Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques (specifically CRISPR/Cas9 screen, cell survival, laser micro-irradiation, and DNA combing) and write detailed experimental protocols.
  • Test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from various sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate.
  • Use specialist scientific equipment (e.g., DNA combing, Live Cell Imaging and Analysis) in a laboratory environment.
  • Act as a source of information and advise other group members on scientific protocols and experimental techniques.
  • Provide guidance to new members of the research group, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, and PhD and project students.
  • Assisting the Principal Investigator (PI/Prof Ramadan) in managing the group on a daily basis
  • Assisting in managing daily lab duties.
  • Securely store and manage obtained scientific data.


Competencies and qualification requirements:
  • Knowledge of basic biomedical laboratory techniques, preferably in the field of genome stability, ubiquitin system and gene editing
  • Experience: in organization and maintenance of basic wet research laboratory in molecular biology and or biochemistry
  • Preferable Skills: Cell culture, molecular cloning, gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9), basic biochemical and cell biological techniques (e.g., protein purification, Western blotting, immunofluorescent microscopy), willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Competence: highly skilled in various basic wet laboratory techniques and capable of successfully delivering research goals in a highly competitive academic environment
  • Essential Qualifications: biology or relevant undergraduate degree (BSc) for Research Assistant. Master degree for Research Associate.
