Responsibilities

  • Grants Administration
    • Actively participate in the pre-award and post closure stages in the grants administration cycle, to rein higher level of efficiency at post award stages.
    • Active business partnering with Office of Research and Faculty.
    • Involve in review of T&Cs of grant agreements.
    • Increase overhead recovery from grantors.
    • Cover duty for the grant compliance role: learn the end to end process for claim submission template and format, act as cover/backup team.
  • Grant Reporting and Business Partnering
    • Design appropriate reports for PI and School administrators.
    • Prepare budget & forecast for all grant activities.
    • Examine different financial scenarios to support analysis for planning and projections.
    • Increase utilisation of grants awarded.
    • Actively participate in design and implementation of new ERP system.
  • Grants Governance
    • Establish policies and processes, renew existing ones (where appropriate) and communicate to relevant parties.
    • Draft policy documents.
    • Support on queries on policy matters.
    • Monitor to ensure compliance.
  • Building SMU Grants Team
    • Support Senior Director to achieve an integrated team, towards synergies equivalent of a shared service department or alternate grouping.
    • Increase competency of team through knowledge sharing.
  • Benchmarking with External Parties
    • Carry out relevant benchmarking exercise for purpose of improving efficiency.
Qualifications

  • Degree in Accountancy, Business or a related discipline with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written skills are essential).
  • Fast worker with ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Able to work well with people at different levels of the organisation.
  • Committed, meticulous, organised and resourceful with positive work attitude.
  • Good Microsoft Office application skills.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in SAP; Experience is system set up with working knowledge of grants module, project module and fund module will be added advantage.
  • Familiar with BI tools (e.g. Qlik sense, Power BI, Tableau) will be an added advantage.
