What The Role Is
The STEM Instructor (Workshop) role is to support teachers in the delivery of Design and Technology (D&T) coursework and practical lessons to ensure that lessons can be conducted in the workshops in a smooth and safe manner. You will also support teachers in projects and operational aspects of students’ learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The STEM Instructor (Workshop) role is to support teachers in the delivery of Design and Technology (D&T) coursework and practical lessons to ensure that lessons can be conducted in the workshops in a smooth and safe manner. You will also support teachers in projects and operational aspects of students’ learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
What You Will Be Working On
- Ensure the smooth and safe delivery of practical lessons by preparing teaching resources, setting up workshops/ special rooms, guiding students in their projects/ coursework, supervising their use of tools, equipment and machines, and troubleshooting any related issues
- Ensure the safety of the workshops/ special rooms and storage stores by keeping abreast of safety guidelines and protocols, upkeeping of tools, equipment and machines, as well as proper storage and accountability
- Provide support in students’ STEM learning, such as working with teachers to plan and organise STEM learning experiences/ journeys for students and supporting students in their STEM investigative projects and/ or STEM Applied Learning Programme (ALP) projects
- Manage and maintain inventory of items and materials in the workshops/ special rooms by conducting regular stock-takes and replacement of worn items/ equipment; and collaborate with external partners for asset management and routine checks in the workshops/ special rooms
- Assist in budget planning by providing relevant information and support finance operations
- Prior experience in handling and troubleshooting issues for machines, equipment and tools and familiarity with safety requirements in workshops
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in teams
- Attention to detail with excellent planning and organising abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel) and adept with using systems
