Job Description

The trainee will be part of the Compliance Asia Pacific team and interfaces with Country Compliance, local management and Head Office Compliance. This role helps to ensure effective implementation of regional compliance plans and regulatory initiatives, with a focus on coordinating input for regional and global reporting and assisting the APAC region in migration to new Compliance reporting systems on Microsoft OpenPages

The Trainee Will Support The Assistant Manager, Regulatory Management And Reporting, Central Compliance, APAC, And The Director, Head Of Central Compliance, APAC, In The Coordination And Implementation Of Various Global, Regional And Local Regulatory Initiatives, Including But Not Limited To The Flowing Tasks

  • Provide support (advisory, reporting, policies and procedures setup) in consultation with Country Compliance, Central Compliance, local management, and Head Office.
  • Coordinate and consolidate regular and ad hoc information gathering for various global and regional Compliance projects, including but not limited to Cross Border Marketing, Regulatory Change Tracker, Volcker Compliance.
  • Assist in the ongoing Enterprise Compliance Regulatory and Controls Assessment (CRCA) process and Regulatory Libraries maintenance for APAC countries.
  • Assist the region in migration to various new or enhanced reporting system on Microsoft OpenPages, such as Global Issues Management system, Regulatory Library Maintenance and Regulatory Change Management. Prior working knowledge of Microsoft OpenPages will be favored but it is not a must.
  • Perform sanity check and quality review of APAC Compliance input in various reporting channels.
  • Coordinate regional input for reporting to regional management and Head Office.
  • Perform gap analysis and assist in the mapping between regional/global regulations, internal Compliance codes and guidance.
  • Coordinate and prepare Privacy Impact Assessment responses and certification from APAC Country Compliance teams for sign-off.

Pre-requisites

  • Fresh graduate in business or law related disciplines
  • Graduates from other majors may also be considered
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, project management and time-management skills, required to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and coordinate/ consolidate regional management reports, assignments and projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and dedicated team player
  • Proactive mindset for the implementation of complex regulatory initiatives
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.)
  • Previous work experience in banking industry would be an advantage, experience in Compliance / AML / Client-Onboarding is a plus.
  • Interest in compliance

Learning Outcomes

  • Acquire a better understanding of and exposure to Compliance function with coverage of all branches/subsidiaries of BNS in Asia Pacific: Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore
  • Understand the role and responsibility of Compliance in the Bank
  • Understand how Compliance works with various partners to safeguard and regulatory risks in the course of conducting business
