The SingHealth Duke-NUS Medical Humanities Institute (SDMHI) is a joint-entity in the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC). It is envisioned that medical humanities can connect the academic strengths of Duke-NUS Medical School with the clinical wealth of SingHealth institutions to be at “The Heart of Tomorrow’s Medicine”.

The Institute’s vision “The Heart of Tomorrow’s Medicine” is encapsulated in its missional objectives – “to integrate arts and humanities in medical practice, education, and research to improve person-centred care and population health in Singapore; and to enhance healthcare providers’ personal experience of care delivery”.

The successful candidate will work under the leadership and supervision of the business lead, and will be responsible for general administration, coordination and execution of various business-related functions of the Institute. This generally encompasses work scope including but not limited to the following:

  • Provide secretariat support for the Institute including scheduling and organising meeting, facility booking, as well as assist in minute-taking, and supporting the business lead in the preparation of work plans, budgets, and financial reporting.
  • Organise events which includes courses, colloquiums, conferences, concerts, and exhibitions, including prioritising and managing multiple initiatives/projects simultaneously and following through on issues in a timely manner.
  • Manage publicity and mass media including website maintenance and social media outreach.
  • Liaise with external vendors e.g. film and music crew, website design, etc.
  • Provide seed support for research projects to gather pilot data for grant applications. This includes institutional review boards’ application, assisting with consent taking, transcription of interviews, coordinating interviews/focus groups, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and analysis for the Institute Director and members of the Institute leadership (i.e. the Deputy Director, and programme co-leads) as well as other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with staff from external departments (i.e. offices/departments within the school and health system) which support the institute’s business functions, including giving oversight to the work of external junior staff, if required.
  • Budget for events and prepare workplan spreadsheets and slides.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein or as assigned by the business lead and/or Institute Director.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 to 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Prior work experience in a research/academic environment would be advantageous.
  • Meticulous, well-organised and able to multi-task, with competency in applying general personnel practices, accounting and budgeting principles and coordination of major administrative functions.
  • Conversant with publicity and mass media management including website maintenance and social media outreach would be advantageous.
  • Have good interpersonal skills and able to work well in teams; including serving as liaison for routine administrative/operations matters.
  • Possess excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Proficient in general software applications such as Microsoft Office, SAP and content management systems that facilitate work operations.
