Job Description

Purpose of Job:

The Research Engineer (Process Development) is responsible for the development of chemical processes including low carbon processes as well as monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing processes in a pilot plant leading up to a technology transfer. He/she will also participate in research and development of novel process technologies in performing experiments in laboratory to validate hypothesis and demonstrate proof-of-concept leading to prototyping and eventual scale-up and implementation of the technologies. This role requires good understanding and knowledge of the underlying key process/chemical engineering principles and uses computer aided engineering tools such as simulators, process and plant engineering tools for process development and engineering. This individual thinks analytically to solve problems and improve existing methods and processes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct literature survey on the current state-of-the-art process technologies and perform cost-benefit assessments for benchmarking
  • Plan and perform laboratory-based or pilot-based experiments to support process development or technology development, scale-up and process/technology optimisation leading up to technology transfer
  • Simulate chemical processes using in-house or commercial process simulation software packages for process design, optimisation and scale-up
  • Support other process development activities such as techno-economic analysis and lifecycle assessments
  • Document and analyse data from experiments, literature and other sources
  • Update and communicate results to supervisors or other internal/external stakeholders on the progress and status of the work in the form of presentation slides or reports

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or other related fields.
  • Good understanding of core chemical engineering principles
  • Experience in process development in the industry is highly desirable.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and organization skills
  • Self-driven and meticulous individual who has the strong ability to multi-task and has good time management skills to deliver results under tight timelines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for the timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of results in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary, team-based environment
