Job Description

This position is for a full time Research Assistant or Research Associate in the Laboratory of Immunity and Immune Pathology in the Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases. The candidate will perform laboratory-based studies investigating innate and adaptive immune responses during virus infection and vaccination. The candidate may also be expected to perform diagnostic tests on patient samples and to assist with maintaining IRB approvals for laboratory projects.

The main duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: -

  • Perform tasks and support all aspects of the research project.
  • Process blood sample and prepare samples for other analyses (e.g. flow cytometry).
  • Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and/or research findings.
  • Assist researchers in programming, data analysis and literature review in various research projects.
  • Contribute to project management, presentations and publications of research work.
  • Assist with the general upkeep of laboratory needs, laboratory management, ordering, budget tracking, and/or management of animal colonies.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences or other related fields.
  • Prior research experience with human or animal samples and with virologic techniques, such as plaque assay would be advantageous.
  • Able to undertake independent research progressively.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communications skills with excellent written, oral communication and computer skills.
  • A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated, independent and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.
