Overview

Financial Markets and Derivatives role – part of the Legal Financial Markets (Asia Pacific) team supporting the Bank’s Financial Markets and Group Treasury business in the Asia Pacific region.

Regional exposure involving the Bank’s branches and affiliates in Asia Pacific (including Hong Kong, Manila, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei, Tokyo).

Good quality regional and international exposure to swaps, derivatives and treasury work.

Key Responsibilities

  • General advisory, drafting and review work to support the Bank’s Financial Markets and Group Treasury business lines in the Asia-Pacific region. Including but not limited to drafting and review of transaction documents, terms sheets and trade confirmations, review of legal opinions, analysis of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Working closely with stakeholders in the front office and support functions (including Risk, Compliance and Operations) to support the Financial Markets and Group Treasury business.
  • Advising stakeholders on local, regional, and global legal & regulatory issues affecting the business; executing regulatory implementation projects.
  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating master agreements for swap and derivative transactions (with a focus on ISDA Agreements and Credit Support Documents) and other financial markets transactions (e.g., repurchase agreements; securities lending agreements).
  • Drafting pricing supplements and/or reviewing documentation for the issuance of notes under the Bank’s notes funding programmes.
  • Instructing and liaising with the Bank’s external lawyers for advice and transactional support.
  • Liaising and interacting with the Bank’s other Financial Markets Legal hubs (New York, London, Amsterdam, Brussels) on policy, documentation, and transactional matters.
  • Participating in global practice groups to share and develop legal best practices for various sub-disciplines of Financial Markets Legal work.

Person Specifications

(A) Competencies

  • Good quality derivatives and negotiation experience (with ISDA Agreements and related Credit Support Documents, repurchase agreements, securities lending agreements, etc.).
  • Knowledge of financial markets products.
  • Experience with Financial Markets transactional and/or regulatory work.
  • Experience in managing projects (e.g. regulatory implementation; standardisation of documentation).

(B) Pre-requisites

  • Law degree with a common law background.
  • Admission to a Commonwealth law jurisdiction preferred.
  • 3-10 years Post Qualification Experience.
  • Good quality derivatives experience, experience with ISDA documentation, repurchase agreements and securities lending agreements, as well as some derivatives transactional and/or regulatory work.
  • Some experience with notes issuance and/or debt capital markets work would be an advantage.
  • Working proficiency in an Asian language (e.g., Mandarin, Malay, Indonesian, Japanese, etc) would be an advantage.
