Summary

Essential Job Functions

Performs general cleaning activities such as trash collection, restroom cleaning, window washing, spill clean-up, and sweeping or blowing of dirt/leaves/debris.

Inspects buildings, equipment and grounds for needed maintenance and repair and handles any minor repairs required (e.g. repair of fencing, drywall repair, minor carpentry, etc.).

Performs general painting of walls, floors or other structures as needed (e.g. graffiti cover-up, stencil use in special projects, etc.)

Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains/toilets, etc.).

Operates pressure washer for routine and as-needed cleaning of buildings, floors, stairwells and other structures.

Performs repair, replacement and changes to parking related signs and instructional devices.

Maintains the grounds around the parking structures including mowing grass, weed eating, edging, minor trimming and blowing of dirt/leaves/debris using a variety of gas-powered, electric or hand-powered tools and equipment.

Performs routine and as-needed repair and programming of parking meters including head replacement, cleaning, lubrication, removing obstructions, resetting, changing batteries, changing decals and reprogramming.

Maintains inventory levels of maintenance and janitorial tools and supplies working with contracted vendors and staff to recommend and initiate procurement, confirm receipt and perform stocking.

Performs routine collection and audit of parking meters working closely with fellow co-workers and other city departments to ensure collection and audits are complete.

Comprehends and adheres to policies, procedures and safety regulations, while performing tasks.

Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.

Non-essential Job Functions

May be required to respond under emergency conditions.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Below are the required education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions.

Education And Experience

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma; and one (1) year of experience in building/facility maintenance work, including use of tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work.

Licenses

Valid driver license required at time of appointment and at all times while employed in this classification.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of and ability to operate tools and supplies used in grounds keeping and facility maintenance, including lawn mower, weed eater, pressure washer, blower, air compressor, pneumatic tools, standard tools and accessories, painting equipment, chemicals, etc.

Knowledge of precautions necessary to perform work safely.

Ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance under variable weather conditions.

Ability to work and communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers and the general public, including angry and/or abusive individuals.

Ability to read and understand various written communication means, including email, text, word documents, electronic calendars, hand-written directions, etc.

Ability to utilize a computer to store documents, perform minor internet searches and operate standard programs, such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Ability to conform to grooming and dress codes (uniforms furnished).

Physical And Environmental Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess certain physical abilities and be able to withstand work related environmental conditions.

Physical Requirements

Required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Ability to squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above head and reach forward.

May on occasion be required to sit.

Ability to safely operate a city vehicle and other motorized equipment.

Ability to use hand strength to grasp tools and climb ladders.

Ability to bend or twist the neck and trunk to perform duties

Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Specific vision abilities to perform this work include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work may require performance of tasks in extreme heat; and entering and maneuvering within confined spaces.

Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.

Work may require local travel to general government locations within the Gainesville area.

Work may require exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals including fuel, oil, paint thinner, bleach, cleaning products, etc.

Work may require occasional shifts outside of normal business hours for special needs.
