Royal Selangor
Founded by : -, 1 January 1885
About the Company
The Royal Selangor story began in 1885 when a young pewtersmith, Yong Koon, sailed from the port of Shantou, China to the fledgling tin mining town of Kuala Lumpur.
The company produces a fine range of homeware, gifts and personal accessories, with a workforce of 250 skilled craftspeople. International designers like Erik Magnussen, Jamy Yang and VW&BS are regularly commissioned to challenge the perceptions of pewter. Collaborations with the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the National Palace Museum in Taipei and the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia draw on the institutions’ vast archives to also provide inspiration.
Royal Selangor is renowned for its bespoke commissions. Trophies, premiums and mementos, from the sleek to the ornate, have graced many product launches, anniversaries and grand openings around the world, and have made appearances at premier sporting events like the F1 Grand Prix and the ATP World Tour.
Royal Selangor is a diversified enterprise which include two sister brands - Selberan for fine jewellery and Comyns for sterling silver products.
The company has now grown from a small family-run business to one of the best known brands in the world, with stores and distributors spanning the globe.
